If I should be punished at all for anything I did to influence Quirina’s mind, it should be for this one dubious suggestion I once made after class, shortly before Christmas, though flippantly and only once and ever so casually, but nevertheless, yes, I suggested something like a personal confrontation in the not too distant future, and through it transformed myself irrevocably into an icon of that same hypocritical system I used to despise so much when I was young and uneasy and a pupil myself, this distrustful and hated world of treacherous teachers and powerless parents.
