In de laatste TLS bespreekt Mia Levitin Falling Is Like Flying, de vertaling door Sam Garrett van Vallen is als vliegen van Manon Uphoff. Levitin zet het boek af tegen andere boeken met hetzelfde onderwerp (de ‘so-called “abuse memoir” is a notoriously tricky genre’) maar Uphoff dit boek ‘steers clear of sensationalism’. De recensie eindigt aldus:

Dreaming of writing one day to “add something to this great edifice of human experience”, Uphoff has, as far back as she can remember, been attracted to “gruesome” fairy tales. In Falling Is Like Flying, she has successfully combined myth and memory to craft one of her own. “How hideous, how grave, how real.”
