De International Booker Prize is toegekend aan Taiwan Travelogue van Yáng Shuāng-zǐ en vertaald van Chinees naar Engels door Lin King. Dat is gisteren bekendgemaakt. Het is voor het eerst dat de prijs gaat naar een uit het Chinees vertaalde roman. Aan de prijs is 50.00 pond verbonden. 25.000 voor de schrijver en 25.000 voor de vertaler. De jury bestond uit Sophie Hughes, Marcus du Sautoy, Natasha Brown (voorzitter), Troy Onyango en Nilanjana S. Roy.
Brown zei over het boek:

‘This book doesn’t shy away from the complexities (both real and fictional) of its journey into the English language. Instead, it uses the hallmarks of a more traditional text – introductions, footnotes, afterwords – to wrap an intriguing metafictional layer around its core love story. Lin King’s deft translation perfectly conveys the nuances of the novel’s narrative voices.
