The Wall Street Journal is zeer positief over The Song of Stork and Dromedary (de vertaling door David Mckay van Het lied van ooievaar en dromedaris). Recensent Sam Sacks begint met de vraag waarom de Eurocentrische Nobelprijs voor literatuur nooit naar een Nederlander is gegaan en noemt Harry Mulisch als de schrijver die de prijs had verdiend. Maar Sacks ziet nu een nieuwe kandidaat: Anjet Daanje!

Ms. Daanje has published 10 novels, and while only two have been translated into English, they alone mark her as one of the continent’s leading writers.

Op Kirkus Reviews werd het boek ook positief gerecenseerd: ‘A challenging book that rewards its readers with great depth and beauty.’

Brock Covington van de Chicago Review of Books heeft toch wel enige kritiekpuntjes:

Yet in her intricate web of interconnected stories, Daanje opens the door for intrigue, but largely fails to furnish the room. Much like her debut novel [de recensent verwijst naar The Remembered Soldier, CP], this work often presents characters with a verbosity that spills over the page rather than adding depth.

Maar hij eindigt toch positief:

Ultimately, The Song of the Stork and Dromedary stands as another example of Daanje’s brilliant storytelling, cementing her status as a writer to watch for years to come.
